The Games on the Common

Think you’ve got game? Think you can take on a UMASS college athlete and win? How about at Bocce?

Join us on the Amherst South Common for “The Games on the Common” where ordinary Amherst citizens of all ages can engage in demonstrations of backyard prowess. Show off your style. Try your hand at a new game. Unlock secret talents. Pick up pro tips. Participate or spectate. Bring your A game or order up a nice picnic lunch from one of our fine cafes, pubs and restaurants and join us for croquet, bocce, and badminton.

April 23 from 12 – 5 pm, the Amherst BID is providing games, balls and nets and offering an open invitation to the community at large. UMASS Athletics is sending student athlete ambassadors to join in the fun. The Town Common is a level and welcoming playing field used for over 250 years as a community resource

Put down your phones, grab a racquet, a mallet, or a ball and engage in a healthy celebration of spring!

Sample slices and bites of bliss as downtown restaurants and cafes offer up samples of their desserts. $10 for 10 desserts. Tickets on sale at A.J. Hastings or at Reader to Reader.  Cafes and restaurants:

Join us for a day of family fun, education and entertainment. The Sustainability Festival is in its eighth year and is bigger and better than ever! There is literally something for everyone with over 100 vendors of renewable energy, energy efficiency product suppliers, advocacy groups as well as sustainable crafts and artisans!

Don’t forget to bring your clean, used, dry clothing and textiles for the annual Textile Drive sponsored by the Amherst Recycling and Refuse Management Committee! The drop off will be located on Boltwood Avenue across from the Lord Jeff Inn.

AMHERST CHALKWALK

Chalk artists of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate in this fun town-wide event. Amherst ChalkWalk is looking for artists to draw with sidewalk chalk in downtown Amherst. All ages and experience levels welcome. Enter your art into our judged competition for a chance to win prizes from local businesses. Live music on the Town Common all day. Big Brothers/Big Sisters Daffodil Run
APRIL 30
5K Walk/Run and 10K Run,
10 am Start at Kendrick Park.

The Daffodil Run is a 5K Run/Walk & 10K Run during the last weekend in April, and is a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together while racing past the thousands of Daffodils that were planted in celebration of the town of Amherst’s 250th Anniversary. All proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County, a program of the Center for Human Development, and make a BIG difference for children in Hampshire County.

About the Daffodil Run  
In this fun springtime community event participants race through beautiful downtown Amherst past many of the 50,000 daffodils planted in celebration of the Town of Amherst’s 250th anniversary. The Daffodil Run includes a 10k run & 5k run/walk which bring participants together in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County. Both courses are USATF Permit pending.

On race day, Kendrick Park is transformed into a festive, family friendly space with pre-race warm up activities for all ages, music, bounce house, games, food and more! All levels of participation are welcome. Celebrate spring with us!

Each participant who pre-registers by April 1, 2017 will by guaranteed an event t-shirt. All registrants receive a meal ticket for the post-race barbecue hosted by The Pub.

Awards  
Prizes are awarded to the first, second and third place male and female 5k and 10k runners.

Prizes will also be awarded to the top male and female runners from the following age categories: 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, over 50

Participants who come in costume are welcome to enter the contest for best costume, one prize will be awarded.

Free local parking is available near Kendrick Park.

Fundraising  
Individuals and teams can support Big Brothers Big Sisters by fund raising for this event. Fund raising and registration fees support the work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampshire County and the positive impact the organization makes on the community. Growing up can be hard work, especially for young people facing difficult challenges. When team and individual participants help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters, they give the gift of mentoring to a child in need. For that child, this gift can mean friendship, new experiences, new possibilities in life, increased ability to express themselves, improved academic performance, confidence in the future, and more!

Registration Fees  
Register before April 1, 2017 to receive the following early bird rates:
5k run/walk registration is $25 for adults; students are $18 and children under 12 years are $8. 10k run registration is $30 for adults and $23 for students.

After April 1, 2017 registration for 5k run/walk is $27 for adults, $20 for students and $10 for children under 12 years old. 10k run registration will be $32 for adults and $25 for students who register after April 1.

Day of registration rates for the 5k run/walk are $30 for adults, $25 for students and $12 for children under 12 years old. For 10k runners day of registration rates are $35 for adults and $30 for students.
