In partnership with the Goethe-Institut Boston, Amherst Cinema is proud to present a series of New Films from Germany, with a special focus on the work of emerging directors. The films will screen monthly on the following Sundays with titles announced 4-6 weeks in advance:
The first film is ALL OF A SUDDEN, screening on Sunday, February 26 at 10:30am with an introduction by Dr. Barton Byg, UMass professor and founding director of the DEFA Film Library. DEFA is the only archive and research center outside of Germany devoted to a broad spectrum of filmmaking from and related to the former German Democratic Republic.
In ALL OF A SUDDEN, everybody leaves Karsten’s apartment after a party, except Anna. Karsten approaches this mysterious woman. How could he have known, that in a moment of weakness, his well-established life would spiral out of control and turn into a disaster?
In this small provincial German town, disappointment soon fuels anger, justice hides behind hypocrisy, and evil gradually unfolds.
