April Amherst Arts Night Plus
Thursday, April 6, from 5-8 pm

During Amherst Arts Night Plus drop in at the Museum for an open mic, poetry reading, and one-night art exhibit. Open mic signups are from 5-6 pm, and the open mic begins at 6 pm with the featured readers following. The open mic is a chance to share your newest (or oldest) creative endeavor with a warm and welcoming audience in Emily Dickinson’s own parlor. All are encouraged to share written word, music, and performance, or to simply lend a friendly ear!

Open mic feature: Jenna Baillargeon is a second year at Hampshire College, studying Non-Verbal Communication through the avenues of poetry, American Sign Language, and expressive dance. She is a member of Northampton Poetry and the Emily Dickinson open mic community. Jenna will represent Hampshire in the 2017 Five-College Poetry Festival and recently self-published a chapbook entitled The Longest Staircase. She describes herself as an opinionated trainwreck and an introvert, both of which are reflected in her poetry. She is both terrified and thrilled to be featuring.

Arts Night Featured Readers: Students of The Literacy Project reading original memoirs and poems, accompanied by Judith Williams on keyboard.

About The Literacy Project:
The Literacy Project offers free classes to adults in Western Massachusetts in beginning literacy as well as GED preparation. We offer small, comfortable classes in locations throughout Franklin, Hampshire, and western Worcester Counties. A team of staff instructors and community volunteers help students work at their own pace, towards their own goals. Many students are studying for the GED. Others are preparing for college or job training programs. All of them are taking charge of their lives – and creating a stronger community. Together, we help to keep the doors of opportunity open for all adults in our region.

Featured Artist: Andrew Rothschild
Andy Rothschild has been making Found Object Art for about a decade now. He has been making lots of owls and dragonflies and floral arrangements lately. What he creates at any time is governed by the materials on hand. He continues to appreciate that his friends bring him rusty discarded metal, broken household items, and other stuff that they want to rid themselves of.
