The 24-member Valley Festival Brass, under the baton of Dr. Matthew Westgate, Director of Wind Studies at UMass Amherst, and in collaboration with the Music On Main Concert Series, presents their annual brass concert, featuring holiday favorites and a carol sing. Richard S. Matteson, Artistic Director for Music on Main and Minister of Music at First Church will join the brass and percussion, adding organ accompaniment for the carol sing portion of the concert.
Come join in this family-friendly, exuberant and joyful celebration of the holiday season.
The Amherst Brass Band was reborn in the 1980’s from its early 20th century origins and sustained a holiday concert series for 16 years under the direction of beloved trumpeter and Amherst educator Ron Bell. The “Valley Festival Brass” continued this tradition in 2006. All participants are professional performers, music educators and community members who volunteer and donate their time and talents for rehearsal and performance.
