Michele Bernet is the featured artist at the Visitors Information Center Gallery. Her show is titled Natures Array
Her work features encaustic painting which is a mixed media technique which involves heating beeswax with damar resin and colored pigments painted on a wood surface. Encaustic comes from the Greek word Enkaustikos, meaning to burn in.
The oldest portraits that are Encaustic are the Fayum mummy portraits from 100-300 AD.
Also featured are cold wax and oil paintings. The cold wax is mixed with beeswax and added to oil paint and is painted on a wood panel.
Michele Bernet was born in Cleveland, Ohio
She studied at Christie Manson and Woods decorative arts Program in London, England
She is a curator at Pelham Historical society since 2000 and current Board member of Amherst History Museum
