Job Description
Title: Summer Marketing Internship
Reports To: Marketing & Communications Manager
Type/Location: Part-Time 20-hours, In-Person at 35 S. Pleasant St., Amherst, MA 01002
Compensation: Stipend provided by the BID & Isenberg School of Management Community Initiative
Position Overview
The marketing intern role supports Downtown Amherst’s marketing and events as well as serving as part of the Visitors Center team, helping promote local businesses, engage visitors, and support arts, cultural, and tourism initiatives. This role blends content creation with hands-on event and customer service experience.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Marketing & Communications (50%):
Produce digital content promoting Downtown Amherst’s businesses, restaurants, arts organizations, and events
Assist with social media planning and execution across BID platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
Draft and update website content, newsletters, and online event listings
Event Support (25%):
Assist with planning, logistics, and on-site execution of summer events—including the summer concert series, arts and cultural programming, and community celebrations
Support event setup, operations, and breakdown
Capture content for social media and post-event marketing
Visitor Engagement & Administrative Support (25%):
Greet and assist visitors at the Downtown Amherst Visitors Information Center
Serve as an ambassador for Downtown Amherst, Provide recommendations, maps, and guidance on dining, shopping, cultural activities, and parking/transportation
Maintain an organized, welcoming center environment and ensure brochures and promotional materials are up to date
Track visitor data and frequently asked questions
Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in person
Support other administrative tasks as assigned
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Marketing, management, hospitality and tourism management, or operations information management student seeking applied experience. All academic disciplines welcome!
Strong writing, communication, and digital content skills.
Confident engaging with the public and representing organizations professionally
Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, event-driven environment
Enthusiastic about Downtown Amherst, small businesses, arts and culture, and community engagement
